I Love You

Kara called three years ago today and told me she wasn’t able to get an earlier flight home from So. Africa, and she was kinda bummed. She’d had a good visit but was anxious to get home; to her FAMily, to her friends, and to her work. We chatted a bit; I told her to be careful and to call when she arrived in NYC; and as always, we said good bye saying “I love you.” Our family shared great love together while Kara was with us, and Kara shared her love with so many others, extended family and friends as well. Like you, we have lots more love we’d like to be able to share and receive from Kara, and I believe that’s the source of our pain as well as the source of our healing. The pain comes from missing the love you can no longer share with someone who has died. The healing comes from sharing the love you received from that person, with someone who is living. Kara had alot of love to give because she received alot of love from all of us. And the more love you give, the more you receive back. Kara’s death has opened my eyes and my heart to great pain; pain within our family and friends, as well as pain in the lives of strangers. As sad as I am over Kara’s death, I am a more compassionate person because of it. I have been drawn to others who have experienced loss in their lives, and through sharing my time and my love with them, their love in return has helped to heal my pain. So I thank you Kara for the gift of your love, and for your example of sharing your love. You are missed deeply but never forgotten, for your love lives in our hearts and in our daily lives. I do thank God every time I remember you. Good night and happy faces…I love you.
